Biathlon Summer Series slowly growing

The third of six summer biathlon races was held at Brookvale Nordic site Monday night.  Each week the numbers slowly grow with eleven races aged 11 to 50 taking part.  Adjustments to the race, such as distance or the size of target are made for racers depending on their age and abilities.

In the 17U male race, Colby Munro was a repeat winner hitting 7 of 15 and finishing in a time of 24:26 almost two minutes faster than his time in the first win. Jack MacDougall was second hitting 11 of 15 and Simon Hale was third.

The 18+ male division had five men take part with newcomer Jake Mallet hitting 14

Biathlon PEI's Summer Race Series is back for a second summer.

Monday September 5, 2016

Each event is set out:

5:30 pm Registration down in the Stadium near the start line
5:45 pm Safety Course for all non BPEI members - Must attend
6:15 pm or earlier Race Start

Cost is $15 for non BPEI Members and $10 for members

SAFETY COURSE
All non BPEI members are required to take the safety course before the race starting at 5:45 pm

For over 20 years ADL has supported Amateur Sport in PEI and Biathlon PEI was pleased to have Shawn MacLean from ADL to address the membership Friday night during the awards.

Contributor of the Year -  This is recognition that may be awarded annually to an individual, group or sponsor who demonstrates outstanding support for the sport of biathlon and/or makes a significant contribution to the growth, development or leadership of BPEI.

This year’s winner is Island Coastal Service Ltd. For many years now Island Costal has helped Biathlon PEI with the berm and other on-site issues.

Biathlon PEI AGM set for May 13, 2016

It's that time of year! the Biathlon PEI Annual General Meeting, Awards and Pot Luck is scheduled for May 13, 2016 at the Brookvale Nordic Lodge.

All members are invited to join us for the Pot Luck and Awards at 6pm to be followed by a Special General Meeting to amend some by-laws about the structure of the Board and how we include Clubs. The Special meeting will be followed by the Annual General Meeting, where the new board will be elected.  Positions up for election (under the current board structure) are President, Secretary,  and two directors.

Major award for the Hale’s

This past week at the Canadian Biathlon Championship in Valcartier, Québec, Callie Campbell of Bedeque put together her best shooting of the season and won a gold medal in Saturday’s individual race. On Thursday during the awards dinner, Judy & Stephen Hale were recognized by Biathlon Canada and received the Myriam Bedard Award. In total Biathlon PEI sent five athletes along with a coaching team to the 2016 Championship.

Callie Campbell’s shooting was strong all week and in the sprint she shot 80% and finished 9th of 35 in the pursuit she was 12th and then finished

Racers win over cold weather

The -17 tempature did not keep 19 athletes from racing today in the first ever Winter Recreational Biathon Event.

Thanks to all the volunteers and family support for a fun day.

What a great morning at our first Winter Recreational Biathlon Race- 19 skiers in total battled the cold weather for a great event.

Even wiht the cold tempatures the first ever Winter Recreational Biathlon Race is set to go. See you all there.
 
Biathlon PEI will host a winter recreational biathlon race as part of PEI’s Islander Day at the Brookvale Nordic Site. This fun and inclusive biathlon race is a great way to take part in the exciting Olympic sport of biathlon.
 
For those with no prior shooting experience, this event will provide an opportunity to safely give it a try.

Biathlon PEI off to great start

Biathlon PEI has attended two events the past two weekends with strong results at both. 

January 9 & 10, nine athletes travelled to Charlo, New Brunswick to take part in the Atlantic Cup #1.  André Boudreau, Caitlin Campbell, Callie Campbell and Simon Hale were all double gold winners with many bouts of clean shooting and high percentage shooting.    

Other medalist of the weekend were Lucas Boudreau double silver and Liam Ellis double bronze.
